Holidays are personal things; one person’s holiday heaven is another’s holiday hell. There is no one size that fits all. Although we can each find enjoyment in the same location, the ways we reach this enjoyment are likely to be different and exclusive to us. The islands of the Eastern Mediterranean often get lumped together – rather unfairly – as one. Each island is united by certain commonalities within history, culture, cuisine and climate, but each island’s exact mix of these features is unique. There are island best suited to food lovers, to culture seekers, beach lubbers and adventure junkies. Having said that, each islands is not one dimensional. For example, although Cyprus holidays are said to offer the most romance – it is the spiritual home of Aphrodite after all – they also offer plenty for families too. But if you are struggling to make a choice and narrow down your choice to just one island, here are the islands best for families, couples and groups. Groups: Cyprus Cyprus has it all. It has romantic spa resorts such as Aphrodite Hills; it has party towns like Agia Napa; it has rugged mountains to hike such as the Troodos and sandy beaches to frolic on such as Lara Bay. Every member of a group is different and will want to do their own thing on holiday to a certain extent, but generally things will be done together at least 50% of the time. Cyprus makes this all possible. On The Beach offers Cyprus holidayswith a wide range of hotels on offer, so you can be as relaxed or party mad as you choose. Couples: Rhodes Rhodes is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe for a good reason. It has remarkable historical architecture such as the UNESCO World Heritage Rhodes Old Town and several Acropolises and castles. Exploring the ruins and meandering through the ancient streets of a sultry, balmy evening is romantic and ideal for couples looking for something more than just luxury beach resorts. Although Rhodes does have these too such as the Ixian Grand and Hotel Elysium Resort and Spa. Quieter beaches such as Ladiko beach offer privacy and tranquility. Families: Zante or Zakynthos The third largest island in the Ionian Sea is perfect for families with children of various ages. There’s enough for teenagers to be amused by and young toddlers and babies are looked after too. The Blue Caves on the north of the island are perfect for family kayaking trips. The water and entire area is sheltered and breathtakingly beautiful. Kids can live out their pirate fantasies on the Navagio shipwreck in a small bay near Porto Vromi, accessed only by boat. Endangered loggerhead turtles call the island home; trips are available to see the nesting turtles around Laganas Bay between May and July. On The Beach have an impressive range of holidays in Greece to choose from their website. You can get more information on Zante from Greece’s national tourism website Visit Greece.
