Have you ever wanted to be able to be part of a dinosaur archeology dig and live like a Paleontologist for a day?  If you’d like to find out what it’s like to go back in time and uncover exciting fossils, well then here is your chance to combine your vacation with an adventurous day in the dirt. Every year from June to July, the Paleo World Research Foundation sponsors a Dinosaur Exhibition that allows the average joe to take part in an actual archeology dig.  Unlike professional paleontologists, people of all ages and backgrounds can participate in a hands-on dig site expedition.  This is not so much a tour as it is an opportunity to see what its like to apply actual field techniques in uncovering 65 year old fossilized dinosaur specimens. While in Montana, you can combine your vacation with a neat and rare opportunity to live like a scientist for a day or for the summer.   Ordinary people learn how to find, collect and preserve fossil specimens and it’s a great way to enrich an ordinary vacation by providing educational elements to your trip.  This is particularly a magnificent experience for people who already have an interest in Paleontology and dinosaurs. You are considered an “Associate Researcher” and get to work alongside a real Paleontologist.  Don’t be fooled, this is not a relaxing excursion and you will be put to work.  Aside from that, you’ll get a full history lesson on the Northeastern part of Montana during the Mesozoic era.  You might even be lucky enough to uncover a T-rex along the way. The people who run the dig are very warm and welcoming to newcomers, just make sure to bring along the right clothing and gear.  The dig site is located in Jordan, Montana and you could combine your visit with a tour to the Lewis and Clark trail since it is only 2 hours away by car.  History can tell us a lot and it can actually be fun to uncover its secrets. Montana’s landscape goes on forever and Big Sky country offers something for every adventurous traveler. This is a guest post by Tiersa Buckley.
